Sharjah 24: Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), reviewed a presentation on the achievements of the Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation (SSEF) during 2022, built on a new strategic plan aiming at sustainable empowerment of orphans and their families, serving 2734 orphans belonging to 1140 families in Sharjah and its affiliated regions.
Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela Al Qasimi praised the SSEF prominent role in serving orphans and stated that the Foundation's interest in the families of orphans was seen through the Foundation's achievements and the comprehensive services and care it provided to ensure a dignified and stable life for them.

Ms. Mona bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Director General of SSEF stated that the Foundation realised a number of achievements that are translated into innovative programmes and projects in the field of care and service for orphans. The Foundation, through such programmes, seeks to empower children, provide families of orphans with basic needs and the necessary care.  

Ms. Mona bin Hadda Al Suwaidi added that the year 2021 was the beginning of a new phase based on adopting a new and more comprehensive approach to work with a developed strategic plan empowering orphans and their families. 

The year 2022 saw many notable events, whereas His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated of the Tuwa Mosque, with the presence of 50 SSEF beneficiaries who contributed to the construction of the mosque as part of "A Gift by Land for Your Father" project.

As part of the series of recent projects the youth project "Sanad Albeat" (Home Support), was launched to create leadership skills and balanced personality building qualified individuals to take responsible role at home. A series of specialised training workshops for the project were implemented with the participation of 274 beneficiaries, children and guardians.

At the end of 2022, SSEF made a number of achievements that meet the requirements of comprehensive care for orphan families, which were embodied in many aspects of empowerment. Many supportive projects were dedicated to achieving an effective response to all their different needs and improving their standard of living to secure a decent and stable life. The total zakat provided to families is approximately 3.5 million dirhams.

The Foundation continued the academic care system, as the academic project “Allama Bil Qalam” (taught with a pen) realised its desired goal supporting 1700 students by providing them with educational support.  The total number of students sponsored by the project, since its launch in 2018 until the end of last year, reached 1749 students, and the total tuition fees amounted to more than 6.6 million dirhams.

The Foundation empowered its members psychologically, as the total beneficiaries of psychological programmes and services reached 224 guardians  and 484 orphans
The Foundation also launched the psychological “Rawaa” programme, aims at empowering mothers of orphans who have recently joined the institution and training them to adapt to the new life.
SSEF has adopted the building of effective community partnerships by supporting the Foundation’s projects and programmes and signing a number of agreements with different parties that have contributed to supporting the Foundation’s work.

Emphasising the important effect of the “Sidreh of Wishes” on orphans, the project fulfilled 544 wishes for orphan children during 2022, bringing the total number of wishes fulfilled to 3118 wishes since the launch of the project in 2016.

In terms of vocational empowerment programmes, training programmes were introduced to train orphans professionally. 32 children followed internship programmes in 4 governmental and private agencies, to acquire practical experience and the skills required for future employment.

To enhance the general health of orphans and guardians, the Foundation provided medical support at a value of approximately 300 thousand dirhams to benefit 56 orphans and 34 guardians.  93 guardians and 21 orphans attended the health awareness programmes aiming at raising the health awareness culture of the beneficiaries.

SSEF placed environmental fingerprints on the orphan families’ homes to create a decent life for them. The Foundation provided environmental assistance at a value of more than 500 thousand dirhams, benefiting 129 families, including 281 orphans. “Godran” project (Walls) ensured a total maintenance to a family house where 4 orphans live, at a cost of more than 51 thousand dirhams.
In terms of social empowerment programmes that enhance the presence of orphans and guardians in society, the Foundation integrated them positively in the society. As a result, social services were provided to 345 orphans and 262 guardians, based on their personal and social capabilities.

SSEF is looking forward to making more achievements that enhance its position as a Foundation, and to provide comprehensive care for orphans and their families through programmes and projects helping them to live a decent life that preserves their dignity and leads them to sustainable empowerment.
