Sharjah 24: Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), received an honorary doctorate in humanities from California State University - Chico, USA, in recognition of her contribution and her great role in improving the quality of life, advocating, empowering, educating and integrating people with disabilities in all fields.
Dr. Gayle Hutchinson, President of California State University, Chico, highly valued everything that Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela has provided for forty years, and continues to provide for people with disabilities and their parents, and for defending their rights, and for raising awareness in the community.
Dr. Gayle Hutchinson said that since Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela took over the management of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services to this day, she has worked with passion and perseverance as a leader to guarantee the rights of people with disabilities and has kept pace with the best and latest international practices in serving them with all their disabilities, and she was keen to provide a better life for them and their parents.
Dr. Gayle expressed her pride that Her Excellency Sheikha Jamila is a graduate of California State University - Chico. She also expressed her great pleasure in presenting her an honorary doctorate in humanities, making her the 22nd person to be awarded an honorary doctorate by the university throughout its 135-year history.
Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Muhammad Al Qasimi expressed her sincere thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, Honorary President of the City, for his unlimited support, for her to reach this distinguished and global position.
Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Muhammad Al Qasimi added that His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah wanted the city to be an Arab and international establishment that would provide services in all fields to people with disabilities anywhere saying that from the beginning, strategic goals were set in line with developing and improving the quality of life and reality of people with disabilities, enhancing their respect and appreciation, working on their education and inclusion, and employing supportive technologies to serve them.
Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Muhammad Al Qasimi confirmed that one of the most beautiful and happiest moments during her career is when she sees the smile of a child with disability served by the city, or a tear of joy from a mother's eye as she sees her child's first steps after it was just a dream, or a city student completing his education at the university.
In conclusion, Her Excellency Sheikha Jameela bint Muhammad Al Qasimi thanked Dr. Gail Hutchinson, President of California State University, Chico and to the members of the Board of Directors for their confidence in awarding her an honorary doctorate in humanities, wishing them continued progress and prosperity.
