Sharjah Consultative Council unites for Municipal progress

Sharjah24: The fifteenth session of the Consultative Council of the Emirate of Sharjah took place at its headquarters in Sharjah city as part of its regular fourth legislative term. Under the leadership of Her Excellency Hanan Rashid Al Jarwan, Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council, the session witnessed positive participation and engagement from 22 members. The purpose of the session was to discuss the Municipal Affairs policy.
Dr. Sulaiman Abdallah Bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Executive Council Member of the Emirate of Sharjah and the Chairman of Municipal Affairs Department, along with municipal directors from various areas in the Emirate, attended the session. They included Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, Director General of Sharjah City Municipality; Ali Musabih Al Tunaiji, Director of Al Dhaid Municipality; Mubarak Rashed Al Shamsi, Director of Al Hamriyah Municipality; Abdullah Sultan Al Ketbi, Director of Al Bataeh Municipality; Musabih Saif Al Katbi, Director of Maliha Municipality; Salem Obaid Al-Mayala, Director of the Al-Madam Municipality; and Engineer Fawzia Rashid Al-Qadi, Director of Khorfakkan Municipality.

Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Secretary-General of Sharjah Consultative Council, underscored the ongoing efforts of the Department of Municipal Affairs in Sharjah. These efforts aim to elevate the level of municipal work, provide essential support for its development, and enhance performance. The discussions held during the session focused on achieving the overall public interest through the department's policies.
Dr. Suleiman Al Zaabi praised the efforts of the Consultative Council and its collaboration with the department in addressing community matters. In his speech, he highlighted the department's commitment to enhancing municipal work and supervising Sharjah’s nine municipalities. He emphasised the importance of coordination among these nine municipal councils in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Dr. Suleiman also discussed the role of the Department of Municipal Affairs in achieving its goals in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. He highlighted the department's focus on developing the performance and services system within the municipal councils and municipalities, and introducing necessary methods and systems to achieve the objectives in coordination with relevant entities.

During the session, council members discussed several issues, including expediting the issuance of construction permits, digital development, plans for rainwater drainage, completing the sewage project, among others. They also addressed the continuation of Emiratisation efforts in the municipalities of Sharjah, across various specialties, which have shown significant progress in attracting national talents.
Furthermore, Dr. Al Zaabi emphasised the importance of municipal councils in the Emirate as a link between the public and government entities. He highlighted their pioneering role in addressing the concerns and aspirations of citizens and residents, and their commitment to conveying them to the wise leadership to find effective solutions. He also underscored the cooperation among the municipalities in the Emirate in developing services, exchanging experiences, and working on the development of various facilities, while also focusing on agriculture and providing all services according to the highest international quality standards.

Before adjourning the session, Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Secretary-General of Sharjah Consultative Council, announced that the next session would be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023. The agenda of the upcoming session will include discussing the council's recommendations regarding the policy of municipal affairs.
