The Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club confirmed that the festival targets the six sports and specialised clubs in the central region of the Emirate of Sharjah, including Al Madam Sports Club, Al Bataeh Sports Club, Al Dhaid Sports Club, Mleiha Sports Club, Sharjah Falconers Club and Sharjah Camel Club, with the participation of 1,500 athletes of different ages.
The reading festival will be held in strategic partnership with the Arabic Language Education Centre for the Gulf States (ALECGS) in Sharjah, the Emirates Heritage Club, Al Qasimi Publications, the Khansaheb Group and a number of specialised agencies.
The press conference was attended by His Excellency Muhammad Sultan Al Khasouni, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mleiha Club, members of the Board of Directors, His Excellency Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of the Arabic Education Center, other dignitaries, representatives of the central region clubs, stakeholders, and a group of invitees and media figures.
In his speech, Muhammad Sultan Al Khasouni indicated that the reading festival will be held on the 1st of next March, for four consecutive days, with the aim of consolidating the culture of reading among the players of the six sports and specialised clubs in the central region, within the framework of the club’s keenness to translate the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to support athletes in the field of reading and knowledge.
The reading festival will include a book fair, cultural sports cafes, reading sessions, and a reading competition, with valuable prizes to be distributed, in addition to organising the cultural competition for all clubs in the Emirate of Sharjah, which the Mleiha Club is keen to organise annually under the title Knights of Culture.
Al Khasouni pointed out that the festival will be held at the headquarters of the Mleiha Club, targeting 1,500 players from all clubs, in addition to cooperation with a number of partners to make the festival a success, which will coincide with the state’s directions in supporting reading in the month of March, being the annual month of reading in the UAE, noting that if the festival succeeded, probably it will be held annually in one of the clubs in the central region.
In turn, His Excellency Dr. Issa Saleh Al Hammadi expressed the Center’s pleasure to participate in this cultural and sports event, lauding the various activities of the upcoming event.
Dignitaries form Emirates Heritage Club have expressed pleasure with their participation, including several activities, contributing to encourage reading among athletes.
