Sharjah 24: The Nubian Heritage Week activities were launched Friday evening at the Cultural Heritage Activities Centre by Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), in the presence of Wael Farid, representative of the Consulate General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Dubai, and Aisha Obaid Ghabish, General Coordinator of the Weeks of World Cultural Heritage and Director of Events and Activities Department at the Institute.
The Cultural Heritage Activities Centre hosted the kick-off ceremony for Nubian Heritage Week last evening.

As part of the World Cultural Heritage Weeks in Sharjah, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage is holding events from 5 to 10 p.m. each night until November 1.

Dr. Al Musallam confirmed that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, instilled in the Emirate of Sharjah a love of Egypt and taught its people the virtues of Egypt and the Egyptian nation, as we set off from His Highness's saying: "This is not a favour... but part of giving back to Egypt."

He noted that this week coincides with the United Arab Emirates' 50th anniversary of diplomatic and formal ties with Egypt.

Aisha Ghabish, General Coordinator of World Cultural Heritage Weeks, said that the new event would focus on Egyptian Nubian heritage. For many years, the Institute has been celebrating Egyptian heritage and bringing attention to Egypt's unique place in the world of culture.

During the week of celebrations, there will be performances of art, folklore, and history, as well as shows of handicrafts. The goal is to highlight the unique qualities and core beliefs of Egypt's Nubian people.
