Sharjah 24: Within the activities of the tenth edition of the Sharjah Calligraphy Forum with the theme "Irtiqa", several training workshops and lectures specialised in Arabic calligraphy, its arts and its various types, were held in the presence of a large number of artists and members of the public who showed grave interest in and have love for Arabic calligraphy.

The workshops highlighted the significant role and efforts of the UAE in general and Sharjah in particular in advancing the art of Arabic calligraphy by holding calligraphy competitions, festivals and international calligraphy forums that contributed to preserving originality of Arabic calligraphy and its aesthetics and the dissemination of the artistic visual culture of calligraphy in society.

The characteristics of different kinds of Arabic calligraphy, its beginning and evolution, were also addressed at the workshops. Participants also put into practice how to draw each line using various techniques, and how to rid these lines of the restrictions of the meaning to form abstract paintings and create an attractive visual joy.

The tenth edition of the Sharjah Calligraphy Forum will continue to be hosted in various places in the emirate until the end of next November.
