The delegation was headed by Dr Khawla Abdulrahman Al Mulla, Chairman of the Family Affairs Authority and Secretary General of the Sharjah Supreme Council for Family Affairs. There were also several other department heads and directors from the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, including Sheikha Mudhi bint Muhammad Al Shamsi, who heads the Family Development Department and its branches.
Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture, and Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of Cultural Affairs at the Department, Director of the Sharjah Calligraphy Forum, and Chairman of the Forum's Committee, welcomed them.
Al Owais gave the delegation a warm welcome and said that His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, holds the art of Arabic calligraphy in high regard because it represents a rich Islamic cultural tradition.
The Council's delegation listened to briefings that explained the styles of art used in the works and talked about the materials used to make them.
A total of 151 calligraphers from around the world are showcasing their talents at this open exhibition.
They went to see Emirati artist and calligrapher Khaled Al Jallaf's personal exhibition and got a rundown on his work from the artist himself.
The "Imtenan" exhibition was also seen by the delegation; it was conceived as a homage to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and was based on his words and those of poets who wrote about him.
The tour ended the delegation's trip to the three honoured exhibits from the United Arab Emirates (Abdul Rahman bin Muhammad bin Nasser Al Owais's Exhibition), Egypt (Hamdi Abdul Rahman Zayed's Exhibition), and Iraq (Sadiq Al Douri's Exhibition).
Attendees of the Al Owais's exhibition were treated to a historical tour that included a briefing on a priceless collection of ancient manuscripts created by artists from all over the world.
Activities for the tenth session of the Sharjah Calligraphy Forum, which is being held under the theme "Evolution" and is being supported by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, will continue until the thirty-first of the following month in different parts of the emirate.
