Sharjah24: The Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA), launched the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHJ) system, which is the first of its kind at the level of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and is completely electronically managed and applies safety mechanisms to all government and private agencies operating in the emirate.
The Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System aims to define the safety standards that must be followed to safely practice various activities in the Emirate of Sharjah, by specifying 18 main requirements that employers must comply with, the most important of which are to ensure the safety and health of workers, contractors, visitors and those affected by the activities of the employer and to assess and control risks.
The system also seeks to enhance the position of the Emirate of Sharjah as a fertile investment environment by providing the highest level of protection for workers in the Emirate and supporting the industrial sector, in which the Emirate contributes 48% of the state's industrial output and the construction sector, which is witnessing rapid development, in addition to preserving the status of the Emirate, which represents an edifice.
Sheikh Saif bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Director of the Prevention and Safety Authority, stressed that registration in the system has benefits that are reflected on institutions and companies based in the Emirate of Sharjah, so that work environments in the emirate become safer, and that the system provides open safety data for most sectors and activities.
Sheikh Eng. Khalid bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Prevention and Safety Authority, stated that the rapid developments in the modern era have reinforced the importance of occupational safety and health and its role in building an integrated system of roles and responsibilities that respond to challenges of all kinds.
His Excellency Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Chairman of the Labor Standards Development Authority in Sharjah, said: "We congratulate our strategic partner, the Prevention and Safety Authority, for launching the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System (OSHJ), which will play a distinguished role in promoting occupational safety and health for the business sector in Sharjah."
