Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), in cooperation with the Municipal Council and the Municipality of Dibba Al Hisn, launched Thursday the activities of the Al Maleh and Fishing Festival in its ninth edition in the city of Dibba Al Hisn, with a large official presence.
In the presence were Khamis Al Suwaidi, Advisor in the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah; Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Suburbs and Villages Affairs; Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and a large horde of officials.
Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director General of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the ninth edition of the festival covers a wide array of activities, adding that a large number of official departments and institutions participate in the festival, which is one of the important and main events that distinguishes the city of Dibba Al Hisn, which has a long history in this industry.
Al Awadi explained that the annual festival contributes to revitalising the economic, commercial and social movement in the city, as well as its role in consolidating the authentic folk heritage represented in the Al Maleh industry and its derivatives, and reviewing the city’s maritime heritage.
The opening ceremony of the festival on Al Hosn Island was also attended by Dr. Sulaiman Sarhan Al Zaabi, Chairman of Municipal Affairs Department; Matar Al Khashri, Chairman of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority; Ahmed bin Yarouf, Chairman of Dibba Al Hisn Municipal Council; Taleb Safar, Director of Dibba Al Hisn Municipality; and a group of officials and residents of the city.
