Sharjah 24: The 11th edition of the Dibba Al Hisn Al Maleh and Fishing Festival will kick off next Thursday, August 29, in the city of Dibba Al Hisn.
The festival is organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and the Dibba Al Hisn Municipality, and will run until September 1.
It is considered the most prominent event at the level of the country and the region, and embodies an authentic aspect of the Emirati national folklore.
The festival celebrates the ancient cultural and popular heritage of Dibba Al Hisn, by highlighting the heritage of the ancestors, their past and traditional crafts, in addition to promoting Al Maleh products, which are considered one of the oldest industries known to the people of the UAE to secure their needs and food stocks in various seasons.
The festival, which will be held over four days on Al Hisn Island, will witness the wide participation of a number of government institutions, private sector companies, and shops specialised in the manufacture and sale of Al Maleh and its derivatives. In addition to a number of fishermen and productive families, which embodies the status and importance of the event as one of the most prominent heritage and tourism festivals specialised in Al Maleh industry at the level of the country and the region.
The festival is organised annually within the framework of the keenness of Dibba Al Hisn Municipality and the SCCI to preserve the popular heritage of the country in general and the Emirate of Sharjah in particular.
This comes to emphasise the economic dimension of marine industries and the profession of marine fishing and develop it to remain an investment, industrial and commercial activity. Since the event constitutes an important platform for fishermen, companies and participating entities to exchange expertise and experiences in the field of marine industries, and to learn about the latest developments in this industry.
The festival witnesses the holding of dialogue meetings with a group of researchers in marine heritage to discuss many issues related to marine and navigation industries and crafts and traditional fishing tools.
The organising committee invited heritage lovers to visit the festival, which opens its doors to visitors daily from 9 am to 9 pm, to enjoy its various festive activities, view different types of Al Maleh products, and learn about the most important features of traditional Emirati culture through a series of cultural and artistic activities and workshops that reveal the basics of Al Maleh making, salting and canning, as well as the fishing methods followed by the ancestors, and other traditional professions that the people of the UAE have practiced throughout the ages.
