Sharjah 24: Dibba Al Hisn Municipality and Sharjah Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) concluded the 8th edition of “Al Maleh and Fishing (AMF)” Festival, on Saturday 11, which was organised for over four days.
Held on Al Hisn Island, the festival attracted 11,500 visitors from all over the country and the Gulf region, achieved sales of one million and 250 thousand dirhams. It witnessed the wide participation of 15 government entities, 20 shops specialised in marine products’ manufacturing, and 15 productive families.
Aside from the festival’s main event, the festival held a series of educational seminars and workshops aimed at strengthening and consolidating the Emirati heritage concepts in the new Emirati youth.
Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director General of the SCCI, stated that the festival was successful in terms of the number of visitors and the huge sales, estimated one million and 250 thousand dirhams, from which the shops and productive families participating in the festival benefited. The festival constitutes an important economic tributary for workers in the Al Maleh (salty fish) industry and marine products’ manufacturing, and vital support for the economy of the eastern region and the country.
He also added that the SCCI is always keen to organise this festival every year and to support cultural and heritage activities in Sharjah for the sole purpose of preserving the ancient Emirati heritage from disappearance and introducing the youth to the professions of the fathers and grandfathers.
