The event, organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the Municipal Council and Dibba Al Hisn Municipality, attracted a wide range of visitors and locals interested in marine heritage and environmental sustainability.
At the SFRA's booth, the authority presented the latest statistics on the state of fish resources in the Emirate of Sharjah, along with showcasing its environmental and developmental initiatives aimed at preserving the marine environment and enhancing fish stocks. The SFRA also highlighted its ongoing support for Emirati fishermen through partnerships with five local fishing cooperatives, fostering their role in ensuring food security and boosting the local maritime economy.
Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Chairman of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority (SFRA), stated that the authority’s participation in the festival aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to protect fish resources and develop the local fishing industry. He said: “We are committed to providing full support to Emirati fishermen, enhancing the role of fishing cooperatives, and intensifying supervision over fish markets and fishing seasons, all of which contribute to protecting marine resources and ensuring food security.”
He further highlighted that such events provide an excellent platform to introduce quality initiatives, exchange knowledge, and promote a culture of sustainability within the community. Abu Ghazin added that the SFRA continues its efforts to monitor and regulate fish markets and fishing seasons, ensuring the preservation of marine heritage and natural resources, while striving to strike a balance between sustainable exploitation and safeguarding resources for future generations.
