Sharjah24: Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” issued its 2021 annual report, as its issuance coincides with the Department's celebration of its 40th anniversary. The report included the most important developments and events witnessed by the economic sectors and the measures and efforts taken by the Department in all sectors and activities.
Such thing is to provide a comprehensive tool for dealers in the economic sectors in the Emirate and to familiarize them with the most important results achieved in confirmation of its efforts aimed at achieving balanced and sustainable economic performance, and enhancing business continuity in various fields.

Commenting on that, His Excellency Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD Chairman, clarified that the Department is moving towards its sustainable goals in which it realizes the magnitude of the challenges and the level of rapid changes that require the existence of well-studied methodologies and plans of action, and anticipates the future in economic and development work. This fall within the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to meet the aspirations of the rational government towards the highest level of excellence and leadership, to ensure global competitiveness and raise performance indicators in various fields. 
Sultan Abdullah bin pointed out that the statistics and data included in the report reflect the size of the efforts made by the Department in improving its tasks. Also, he stressed that SEDD is keen on continuous development in accordance with its strategic objectives and aspirations aimed at providing distinguished economic services, with devoted determination, renewed giving, and a firm approach.

According to data released by SEDD, the development indicators reached remarkable growth. Thus, the total number of licenses issued and renewed during 2021 reached more than 61,000 licenses, with a growth rate of 8% compared to 2020. The Department also worked to regulate the conduct of economic activities and sectors by setting policies, standards and regulations in accordance with the current economic situation, in light of the economic recovery of activities after the pandemic.

From her side, Noura Yousif bin Sandal, Deputy Director of Economic Planning and Studies Department at SEDD, said that releasing SEDD Annual Report of the year 2021 is an important annual event that keeps pace with the renaissance witnessed by the emirate, which requires the availability of data, statistics and analyzes for investors and decision-makers. She clarified that the report includes dedicated enough space to track the local economy in general and the economic indicators of the Emirate of Sharjah in particular. This, in turn, makes it easier for the various authorities to view the annual report and elicit the prospects and future of development in Sharjah. she added that the report documents the economic progress in the emirate by monitoring and recording all developments and changes that are achieved annually at the level of various activities and sectors, and reflects the efforts made to advance sustainable economic development.

Furthermore, bin Sandal illustrated that the eleventh version of the annual report under the title “40 Years of Achievements” includes seven main topics that cover all aspects that SEDD adopts, operates and cares for. The first topic deals with integrated efforts that enhance the sustainability of business investment through the ideal climate for foreign ownership and rapid recovery of business as well as stimulating business environment that enhances investment.

The second chapter of the report also sheds light on the rights reserved for the consumer and investor through unified contracts for consumer rights, in addition to activating partnerships to protect markets.

Then, the third chapter dealt with digitization and technology through a distinguished vision, system and indicators in digital transformation and high capabilities in cybersecurity.

Moreover, Noura bin Sandal said that the fourth and fifth chapters of the report dealt with planning for comprehensive development in the emirate through a legislative environment stimulating business. She carried on that the sixth chapter was about institutional excellence based on planning and innovation pursued by the Department through an advanced system for quality, risk management, new systems for quality, management of ideas and innovation, and management of knowledge and development. The seventh and final chapter dealt with investing in human capital through attracting talent, increasing Emiratisation, and qualifying future leaders by following the highest standards of transparency and governance.
