Sharjah 24: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler's Office, Wednesday morning, honoured the winners of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work (SAVW) in its nineteenth edition at the House of Wisdom.
Following the rendition of the national anthem of the United Arab Emirates and the recitation of verses from the holy Quran, Dr. Jassim Mohammed Al Hammadi, Secretary General of the Board of Trustees of the Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work, gave a speech in which he said, “for twenty years, the award has taken a path for itself that is inspired by the thought and directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, which have contributed to enhancing the importance of building the human being according to a unique humanitarian system that makes voluntary work an essential tributary of community development and advancement.”

Highlighting the award’s many deserved achievements, the Secretary-General added, “The award has made a series of achievements, and during the last participation, the total number of winners reached nearly 102, during which they achieved more than (one and a half million) volunteering hours, for a total of more than (104) volunteering opportunities. The award also established two waqf buildings, in coordination with the Department of Awqaf in Sharjah which proceeds go to support the award voluntary work.”

The Secretary-General of the Award concluded congratulating all honourees of the prizes of the current edition, praising their fruitful efforts and sincere giving, and their great work to help society and its institutions, meet the needs of others, help the desperate and delight the disadvantaged.

Fatima Mohammed Al Hammadi gave the winners' speech in which she thanked and appreciated the award's board of trustees and all its employees for encouraging and honouring volunteers, noting that this would instill the values of giving in the younger generation and enhance this role in Sharjah, the Emirate of giving.

She congratulated the winners for their voluntary giving that reflects the virtuous values of the award, and the importance of personal experiences in the field of giving to society.

Sarah Saif Al Shehhi, in a speech on behalf of the volunteer students, addressed the importance of what the award offers to volunteer students in schools, universities and various educational institutions in terms of helping them do charitable deeds and participate effectively in society, and it is a major part of the distinguished integrated education provided by the UAE and Sharjah to its citizens, which is reflected in building the individual’s personality.

Then, Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi honoured the winners in the various categories of the award, for their efforts in the social and humanitarian fields.

Sheikh Salem bin Abdul Rahman Al Qasimi also honoured the categories selected from the award’s board of trustees and special groups with disabilities, the elderly, Sharjah volunteers category as well as school and university students.
