Sharjah 24: The activities of the first edition of the annual mango festival in Khorfakkan, organised by the Khorfakkan Municipal Council, in cooperation with the Khorfakkan Municipality, kicked off on Friday, with the participation of 28 exhibitors.
His Excellency Dr. Sulaiman Sarhan Al Zaabi, Head of the Department of Municipal Affairs in the Government of Sharjah, inaugurated on Friday the activities of the first edition of the annual mango festival in Khorfakkan, in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Rashid Khamis Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Khorfakkan Municipal Council, Engineer Fawzia Al Qadi, Director of Khorfakkan Municipality, and a number of heads of municipal councils and officials of government departments, along with the presence of the general public.
His Excellency Dr. Rashid Khamis Al Naqbi, Chairman of the Khorfakkan Municipal Council, stated to “Sharjah 24”, that the festival is organised by the Khorfakkan Municipal Council in cooperation with the Khorfakkan Municipality and the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, and the Sharjah Social Services Department.
He maintained that the two-day festival in the heritage village of Khorfakkan attracted about 28 exhibitors from farmers and producers of about 57 types of mangoes, dates, citrus and various fruits.
He added that the festival, scheduled to be organiaed annually, is filled with many events, including workshops, cultural and heritage sessions, and competitions.
He pointed out that the festival aims to support farmers and motivate them to continue in the agricultural profession, as it is one of the pillars of the economy and a fundamental pillar of food security, in addition to being an important and supportive event for the commercial and tourism sector in the city.
