Sharjah Cultural Awards Forum honours 4 Egyptian writers in Cairo

Sharjah 24: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah; the Egyptian capital, Cairo, hosted the ninth edition of the Sharjah Cultural Awards Forum, honouring four Egyptian writers, the translator, Dr. Muhammad Anani, researcher and critic Dr. Youssef Nofal, playwright Samir El Fil, and Safaa Abdel Moneim, researcher in popular literature.
The honouring ceremony was held at the Supreme Council of Culture in Cairo, in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Culture (SDC), and Dr. Hisham Azmy, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture on behalf of the Egyptian Minister of Culture, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department in SDC, Mr. Rashid Al Shehhi representing the UAE Embassy in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Egyptian intellectuals and writers, and the families of the four honourees.

The ceremony was moderated by the Egyptian poet Muhammad Al Mutaim, who highlighted Sharjah's great role in supporting Arab culture under the directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, noting that the Emirate of Sharjah has become a cultural centre for every Arab creator.

His Excellency Abdullah Al Owais delivered the speech of the Department of Culture in Sharjah, saying that joy and happiness are reiterated with renewed fraternal meetings, Arab communication and joint cooperation, which is embodied in the depth of the historical relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Arab Republic of Egypt, under a wise leadership that believes in the importance of continuing Arab communication in all fields.

Al Owais pointed out that the cooperation embodies these principles through the meetings of the ninth Sharjah Cultural Awards Forum, which aims to honour the Arab cultural figures who have enriched the contemporary cultural arena with creativity in the field of literature.

Al Owais stated that the forum was keen to take Egypt as a starting point for launching its activities, and from there to all Arab countries, and after moving between the countries of the Arab world, the Forum returned to Egypt, for the third time to honour new Egyptian writers who have been loyal to their creativity.

Al Owais conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to the honourees, and said that he is honoured to convey to them the congratulations of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in appreciation of their sincere efforts and giving. Al Owais also expressed his thanks and appreciation to Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, and to the members of the work team, for their fruitful cooperation in organising the prestigious ceremony.

Dr. Hisham Azmy welcomed the attendees saying that he is pleased to host Sharjah Cultural Awards Forum, whereas it is an important cultural celebration that comes within the framework of a generous initiative and great sponsorship of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and we are pleased and honoured to be hosted by Cairo.

Azmy added that the Forum is the third of its kind for Egyptian creators, which confirms the cultural pioneering role of Egypt and its creators and also confirms the great appreciation that Sharjah Cultural Awards Forum holds for them and Egypt.

Dr. Hisham Azmy expressed his pride in Sharjah's great cultural role, and its permanent efforts to support the march of Arab culture, and thanked the Department of Culture in Sharjah.


At the end of the ceremony, Abdullah Al Owais and Muhammad Al Qaseer handed over the four honourees certificates of appreciation, in appreciation of their literary and intellectual efforts in the Arab cultural arena.
