SCLD celebrates the month of reading

Sharjah 24: Sharjah Centre for Learning Difficulties (SCLD) launched a cultural campaign to celebrate the month of reading 2022. The campaign, launched in cooperation with the Department of Libraries of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, aims to enhance knowledge and love of reading among students of the centre, encourage employees to read to develop their abilities and knowledge, and contribute to government and societal efforts to establish reading as a habit among all members of society.
The campaign included workshops on dyslexia presented by a group of specialists and experts, in addition to organising a competition for SCLD employees entitled “The Reader Employee”, and launching the “Reading Track” competition, which targeted SCLD students, with the aim of encouraging reading, and disseminating its importance and positive effects on the individual. 

Dr. Hanadi Al Suwaidi, Director of SCLD, confirmed that the month of reading represents an important knowledge platform, and one of the aspects of sustainability for cultural projects in Sharjah, and reflects the forward-looking vision of the wise leadership in its approach to building a community of readers and generations aware of the value of reading, stressing the keenness of the Sharjah Centre for Learning Difficulties to organise innovative cultural events throughout the year, in general, and in the month of reading, in particular, with the aim of contributing to supporting the National Strategic Plan for Reading, which aims to make reading a way of life in the UAE society by 2026.

Dr. Hanadi Al Suwaidi pointed out the importance of the activities that were launched in consolidating the culture of reading and dedicating it as a permanent habit for all segments of society, and transforming reading into a professional and knowledge activity, noting that SCLD sought to achieve inclusive participation from all segments of society, in order to achieve value. 

SCLD also organised (3) educational and awareness workshops presented by learning disabilities specialists from the centre and in cooperation with the Libraries Department of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, including "dyslexia", "developing the cognitive skills of people with learning difficulties" and "phonological awareness and its importance in acquiring reading skills."
