Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah, said: "Earth Hour represents an international event that contributes to raising awareness of the importance of protecting the environment and natural resources by reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, thus contributing to the reduction of challenges that we face, foremost of which are climate change and global warming. Our thanks go to all of our partners, for their support in the success of this long-term effort. "
Since 2007, the World-Wide Fund for Nature has organised the Earth Hour, a one-hour event in which individuals, families, institutions, and companies are encouraged to switch off all lights and electronic devices between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. local time in their respective countries.
