Sharjah 24: Rahmania Mall, the first community and entertainment destination in the Emirate of Sharjah's Al Rahmaniya district, has achieved significant progress toward reaching its sustainable objective, reducing its carbon footprint to 63.57 tonnes owing to its integrated food waste management system.
This comes as part of its waste reduction programme and commitment to the Emirate of Sharjah and the United Arab Emirates' long-term environmental goals, the mall also recycled 187 tons of trash.
Since its inception in March 2021, the mall has made several efforts to advance the sustainability of the Emirate's business community, including implementing new practices in the field of operational sustainability in accordance with worldwide environmental safety requirements.
The water consumption rate in the centre was around 205.38 litres/m2 per year, which is less than the lowest documented performance of 658 litres/m2 per year. According to the Emirates Green Building Council, the mall gets a "good" rating for energy consumption.
As part of the Sharjah government's sustainability initiatives, Rahmania Mall seeks to adopt more sustainable practices by employing automated building techniques that preserve the environment in accordance with its energy management policy, under the supervision of the Sharjah Cooperative Society’s Board of Directors.
The mall’s dedication to implementing the highest environmental safety and green practices demonstrates its commitment to helping the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE's objective of laying the groundwork for a sustainable future, as well as the National Green Agenda 2015-2030.
Abdullah Al Huraimel, Executive Director of the New Enterprises Sector at the Sharjah Cooperative Society, said, "Since it opened in March 2021, the mall has created a unique model for operational sustainability, and we are moving forward with adopting sustainable practices in Sharjah."
