Sharjah 24: Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairperson of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) in Sharjah, praised the large number of participations in the Sharjah Sustainability Award, by schools, universities and graduate studies.
She confirmed to “Sharjah 24” that the most important awards in the UAE- Sharjah Sustainability Award- which sheds light on a specific category, has developed over ten years, after having been initially limited to school students, to expand to students of universities and graduate studies, adding that every year some important fields are highlighted.
Al Suwaidi pointed out that the development and continuity of the award was due to the successes in the research presented, as well as the jury that evaluates the participating works in the award, which witnessed great demand from schools and universities, during which educational workshops were organised to explain the goals and areas of the award.
Chairperson of EPAA explained that the award aims primarily to promote the concept of a sustainable green environment, and to invite school and university students to develop their perceptions of independent projects, ideas and activities, to improve and achieve a sustainable green environment with applicable environmental specifications.
She added that the award carries a noble message of raising the spirit of competition between student sectors in schools and universities to innovate, find and implement sustainable environmental solutions to urgent environmental problems, thus contributing to the dissemination of environmental culture and consolidating awareness of the importance of preserving the environment to achieve and enable the elements of sustainable development on the ground in educational environments, which is derived from the visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on the importance of protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity in the emirate.
