Haitham Al Qasimi inaugurates Sharjah Heritage Days in Kalba

Sharjah 24: Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Ruler's Office in Kalba, witnessed the opening of the 19th edition of the annual “Sharjah Heritage Days” festival, in the presence of Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of SHD, and Dr. Suleiman Abdullah Sarhan Al Zaabi, Chairman of Kalba Municipal Council. A large gathering of senior officials and visitors were in attendance of the event, hailing from various cities and regions of the East Coast.
Ahmed Mohamed Al-Dah, coordinator of the Sharjah Heritage Days opening in the Eastern region, said: “The wonderful events in the heritage village will continue until March 25. The public will enjoy a variety of heritage arts and folklore including performances, chants and dances, traditional crafts, competitions, and entertaining games for children. Visitors can also treat themselves to traditional dishes and other delicacies offered by 15 restaurants throughout the festival grounds, as well as by country pavilions. There are numerous spacious locations for popular exhibits and rare heritage collectibles, where visitors are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in Emirati culture. All facets of the natural Emirati life in different environments is on display including marine, agricultural, mountainous, coastal, and other various heritage sites.”

Al-Dah added: “This year’s festival enjoins diverse and quality participation from various government departments and institutions, under the direction of the heritage village in Kalba. 18 government departments showed great support for the festival, and participated in the activities and programs of the Heritage Days event. 20 notable families and 3 private museums graciously provided their support to ensure the event runs smoothly. Public visitors have also provided support, by indulging in healthy discussion on the arts of culture and heritage, with seminars and lectures being conducted at the cultural café.

The Academic Administration Department, in conjunction with the Guidance Department provided excellent administration, and showcased their expertise by participation in the restoration of manuscripts. The Tourism Department of Kalba city, and the Field Collection Department collected heritage information from elderly citizens in order to ensure a complete representation of Emirati culture. These departments were also responsible for coordinating with and inviting restaurants and other food localities at the event, to meet the culinary needs of visitors. We are thankful to all those who have made possible this magnificent event and are excited to see it’s success continue in years to come.”
