SSSD empowers youth and families towards self-reliance

January 12, 2022 / 11:48 AM
Sharjah 24: Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) revealed that the broad theme of activities, during the next stage of the new year, is empowering youth and families. The first goal of SSSD is empowering families to be able to rely on themselves, and the second goal is SSSD endeavour to reduce the number of unemployed in Sharjah.
Alia Al Zaabi, Director of the Social Aid Department at SSSD, confirmed that 2021 has seen many changes, especially in the field of services, where the department has restored direct communication with the beneficiaries of all services.

Alia Al Zaabi added that the new services include the launch of the “Tamkeen” initiative, within the framework of empowering families. The initiative was launched in October 2020, and targets unemployed youth (over 18 years).  Alia Al Zaabi confirmed that the department provides youth with a place to work, whether in SSSD departments or with its partners such as the Economic Department and the Department of Economic Development, Department of Districts and Villages Affairs, Sharjah TV, municipalities and other departments and institutions, noting that the concerned group receives assistance from the social security services in Sharjah, aiming at improving the conditions of young people.

Al Zaabi stated that the beneficiary receives four training courses per month, in the field of self-building, self-development, money management and others. Tasks are selected according to specialisation and then combined with work.

It is worth noting that SSSD targets 32 social groups, and are represented in 5 categories including financial aid, health care support, women support, child care support, and support for people with special social conditions.

Al Zaabi explained that the social assistance provided by the department is one of the social security services concerned with supporting and empowering low income families and bringing them to an adequate standard of living.

"Housing Improvement" initiative comes after updating the data for all requests, which is done by default every year. With periodic research, it is discovered that some families have poor social standard. Accordingly, a request is submitted to the department and the problem is solved after examining the family's conditions and working to improve it. The improvement process includes all aspects, except for construction.

"Housing Improvement" also falls under the category of "Family Empowerment", "Empowerment of Production", which was based on a decision issued by the department to grant complementary aid to those who joined the "Intaj" empowerment programme.
