Sharjah 24: Sharjah Age Friendly City, will present 17 initiatives achieved during 2017-2020, for the benefit of the elderly, Tuesday evening, during the global event, the Age Friendly Ireland Programme, in which all age friendly cities specialised in supporting institutions for the elderly participate. The Emirate of Sharjah was invited as an official spokesperson about its experience and initiatives in the virtual meeting.
Asmaa Al Khudairi, Director of Sharjah Age Friendly City said that it is the second participation in the meeting, in less than three months, and Sharjah Age Friendly City is officially invited to participate in a global event, to review achievements in the community support and health services  within the framework of the principles and standards of the World Health Organisation age-friendly cities and countries programme.

She indicated that the office achieved successes in the first part of its plan, as a local system was issued to manage the funds of elderly people, and works to issue a guideline on how to support and identify the elderly who are most vulnerable or at risk, and drafts a local law to protect the rights of seniors in the Emirate.

She  added that Sharjah Age Friendly City signed agreements with institutions to spread the culture of age-friendly cities, to train elderly caregivers, launching a mobile home clinic, offering a 24/7 service for home nursing.

Asmaa Al Khudairi concluded that the city will offer elective courses or diploma specialised in the field of the elderly in cooperation with the University of Sharjah.
