Sharjah 24: Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) participated in KLAARA 2021- 2nd Conference on Easy-to-Read Language Research, which was held virtually on the 30th and 31st August 2021 at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland.
The participation of the SCHS is considered unique for it is the first organisation in the Arab world to participate in this conference.
The SCHS highlighted the efforts in its contribution to develop Easy-to-Read Language in Sharjah and in the Arab world. Mohammed Al Nabulsi, Technical Operations Officer at SCHS, indicated that the organisation is going through challenges in developing Easy-to-Read Language for people with cognitive and learning disabilities to help them gain knowledge.
Al Nabulsi also pointed out that Easy-to-Read Language is still considered a new concept in the Arab world, and it lacks expertise to create documents using the language.
The SCHS highlighted its qualitative contribution in this field. It started with organizing a 2-week online training programme in cooperation with a UK company called “Easy Read Online”. The aim of the programme was to develop the skills of the trainees, establish Arabic standards for Easy-to-Read Language that can be found on the website of the SCHS, as well as organise a global forum, the first of its kind, on Easy-to-Read Language, which was held last May, titled Al Manal Forum “Simply. Easy Reading and Disability”.
