Sharjah 24: The Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) organised Tuesday morning, a graduation ceremony for the seventh batch of the City's staff in the music therapy programme that it has been organising since 2013, in cooperation with the South Korea’s Ewha Womans University.
The music therapy programme contributes to developing the physical, social, linguistic and educational capabilities of students with disabilities, and provides opportunities for them to improve their quality of life and participate in and integrate into society.
Since its inception in 2013, the programme has helped 107 employees who have contributed to the training of 398 students with disabilities, through developing their skills in accordance with the best international practices.
Khadija Ahmed Bamakhramah, General Supervisor of the Music Therapy Programme and the Planning and Follow-up Officer in the SCHS, confirmed that the efforts made by the City’s staff contribute to providing the best services to people with disabilities, stating that Ewha Womans University’s cooperation with the SCHS is the first of its kind with an Arab institution, as it is not limited to serving persons with disabilities, but also training the City’s staff to achieve sustainability of the programme and to qualify specialists from the City. Bamakhramah indicated that 29 higher studies female students from the Ewha Womans University have graduated from the programme so far.
Thanks to the trust and support provided to the work team by Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director General of SCHS, Bamakhramah said that the programme has achieved continuity, stressing that providing services to people with disabilities in line with international best practices is at the forefront of the City’s priorities.
Thanking Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Bamakhramah also hailed the efforts and support of Professor Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, SCHS Director; Professor Hyun Ju Chong, Chairman of the Department of Music Therapy at Ewha Womans University; and the trainer supervising the training of the seventh batch, therapist and specialist Music Therapy at Ewha Christine Kim University; and the staff, as well as all those who contribute to the success of the programme year after year.
Professor Hyun Ju Chong commended the achievements of the graduates of the seventh batch who were trained to complete the programme's mission during their work for persons with disabilities and developing their motor, social, linguistic and educational skills using music therapy techniques.
The virtual graduation ceremony witnessed the graduates presenting their presentations, which included a recording of the music therapy sessions, evaluation notes for the work completed during the training period, and the remarkable development of students' skills and abilities during the application of the sessions.
