Sharjah 24: In the presence of Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), the City’s Assistive Technology Centre organised, on Tuesday, a virtual forum for Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications, to raise awareness about the applications of AI and the latest characteristics of AI technology that we have, how to use it and its role in facilitating everyone’s life, including persons with disabilities.
The forum comes within the framework of the Centre’s annual celebration of the Global Accessibility Awareness Day, which was marked during the months of May and June, by organising workshops and forums under the slogan "The Role of Artificial Intelligence Technology in Empowering Persons with Disabilities".
The event aims to shed light on the significance of modern technology in empowering persons with disabilities, educating them and their families about modern technologies, and its role in supporting education and providing opportunities for joint cooperation with institutions and companies concerned with technology and artificial intelligence.
On this occasion, Sheikha Jameela Al Qasimi highlighted the great importance of technology for everyone, especially in the past few years, and with the repercussions of the Corona pandemic, which imposed the idea of learning and using technology, even on those who reject it.
Sheikha Jameela also stressed the importance of modern technologies and artificial intelligence for people with disabilities and their families in all areas of life and knowledge, and their influential role in movement, self-reliance and achieving independence to the greatest extent.
She also thanked all the companies that contribute to providing technologies and training, and thanked the staff of the Assistive Technology Centre for organising the forum, and "Apple", MDS for Technology Solutions, and the Student Facilities Department at Zayed University, for their unceasing cooperation with the Centre, wishing them continued success.
For her part, Rabab Abdul Wahab, Director of the Assistive Technology Centre, stated that the organisation of the Artificial Intelligence Forum is part of the celebrations of the Global Accessibility Awareness Day, which is an active participation in educating all members of society on important concepts such as comprehensive design and accessibility to environments and technology.
