Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Police Tuesday launched the "Together for a Disease-Free Society" campaign, in cooperation with the UAE Genome Programme. The campaign aims to encourage police members to provide blood samples to contribute to the development of a mechanism for anticipating genetic and chronic diseases, and ways to prevent and treat them for current and future generations so as to ptomote the healthcare system across the country.
This was highlighted when Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, received at the Police headquarters, the Emirati Genome Programme team headed by Dr. Ahmed Al Awadi, the official spokesman for the Programme, in the presence of Brigadier General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-Chief, general managers, and a number of specialist officers.

Major General Al Shamsi stressed the keenness of the Sharjah Police to participate in and support the government's treatment and preventive plans to create an Emirati society free of genetic diseases, commending the wise leadership’s keenness to implement such quality programmes, which have a great and positive impact on society and its future generations.

Pointing out the importance of the Emirati Genome Programme in improving the quality of healthy life for the UAE community, and in identifying citizens’ genetic diseases and mutations, Al Shamsi affirmed the importance of the security and community leadership role in supporting the project, and educating members of the community about the importance of participation, calling on all police officers and members, as well as the society to support the Programme.

For his part, Dr. Ahmed Al Awadi explained that the Emirati Genome Programme contributes to providing a database that is useful in scientific research, in order to achieve the provision of distinguished treatment services to the citizens of the UAE, pointing out that the Programme is safe and confidential, and all personal data will be encrypted in line with the personal protection codes enforced in the country.

Dr. Al Awadi thanked the wise government for placing the health of the citizens at the forefront of its priorities, and for its insightful vision for the future generations, praising the interest of the Sharjah Police Commander-in-Chief and his unlimited support for the programme.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police presented a commemorative shield to Dr. Ahmed Al Awadi for his efforts in serving humanity, establishing the country’s position as a centre for research and innovation in the field of genomes, and promoting the UAE’s unique strategic goals.
