Sharjah 24: Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police confirmed that the UAE joins the world in celebrating the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, and expresses full solidarity with international and regional efforts aimed at limiting the spread and smuggling of drugs across countries.
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is also an annual approach to celebrate the remarkable achievements in confronting this evil, to remember how our men were able to thwart smuggling operations, and to raise awareness on the consequences affecting society members.

He pointed out that the challenges are great, but the United Arab Emirates’ vigilant security apparatus and conscious cooperative society are able to create change, confront this evil with determination and achieve success.

Major General Al Shamsi noted that although they change their methods and patterns of smuggling, most organised gangs have fallen, failed to implement their goals, arrested, and brought to justice.

Major General Al Shamsi added that drugs are not a security issue, but rather a societal one. He confirmed that drugs shouldn’t be only the concern of police or security, but also the community. Concerted efforts and unified goals are two main components aiming at combating drugs.

The Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police concluded expressing thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Interior, drug control officers in Sharjah Police, and colleagues in all police and security sectors for their support, great effort, and tireless work, in preserving the nation and achieving security.
