Sharjah 24: Sharjah Documentation and Archives Authority (SDAA) shed light on Haji Abdullah Williamson’s life for his great role in granting concessions to English companies, through a virtual lecture entitled "Haji Abdullah Williamson, between stories of his biography and documents of his career", presented by Dr. Hamad bin Saray.
The lecture is considered a specialisation in the field of documentation and archiving, as it dealt with important and new aspects of Haji Abdullah Williamson's life, who is known as the godfather of oil concessions, for his great role in granting these concessions to English companies.
The lecture included several basic axes, starting with introducing this historical personality, who is of English origin, called "William Richard Williamson", born in England in 1972. The presenter talked extensively about his tours to search for oil sources in the Arab Gulf region, his distinguished relations with the rulers of the Emirates of the Arab Gulf. In addition to, his disagreements with the British authorities and his return home.
The lecturer also discussed the book that includes his biography entitled "Arabian Adventurer: the story of Haji Williamson” by Stanton Hope, which is the only source on the life of Haji Abdullah.
During the lecture, a group of rare historical photos, documents, and correspondence related to Haji Abdullah Williamson’s life were presented, which show the strength of his relationship and friendship with the rulers of the region at that time.
