Sharjah 24: The most dangerous threat on the beach and while swimming in the sea, according to Emirati researcher Ibrahim Al Jarwan, is the rip current (locally known as Sayoura), which is a specific type of water current that can occur along beaches with breaking waves. He said that this current formed near the beach at the start of summer in June.
Al Jarwan continued, “the speed of this current's water flow is faster than that of competent swimmers, and this is one of the key reasons for the rising drowning rate.”
