AASTS launches a partnership with MOCCAE

Sharjah 24: In fulfillment of its function of protecting the marine environment, increasing fish stocks and providing scientific research and development services, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport branch in Sharjah (AASTS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) in the United Arab Emirates.
The MoU aims to offer all AASTS academic capabilities and expertise of its educational staff to protect the marine environment, and to align the shipping sector activities with work requirements to face climate change, and to protect the ecological balance in the waters of the Arabian Gulf and the Arabian Sea.

His Excellency Sultan Alwan, Acting Undersecretary of MoCCAE, and His Excellency Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Faraj, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport signed the agreement.  Prospects for cooperation include strengthening the partnership with the Academy to keep pace with the UAE's objectives in terms of protecting the marine environment, developing natural resources, education and training. Prospects of cooperation also include providing specialised research studies in the field of developing marine environment and fisheries, and providing training in the use of cyber capacity, artificial intelligence and big data to increase marine resources, and reduce the effects of pollution and harmful emissions.

His Excellency Sultan Alwan stated that facing the challenge of climate change and working to reduce its causes, and mitigate its impact and repercussions is a strategic priority for the UAE.

His Excellency Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Faraj that AASTS has an exceptional relationship with the UAE, as the Academy receives a great support from the UAE leadership and decision-makers in order to protect the marine environment, and to ensure the UAE maritime sector commitment to all international standards that limit the harmful effects causing climate change.
