Sharjah 24:The Maldivian Heritage Week, organied by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH), will be launched Sunday, as part of the World Heritage Weeks programme, which hosts every month an Arab or foreign country, under the slogan “World Heritage in Sharjah” to display features and components of its heritage, with observance of all necessary precautionary and preventive measures and protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The activities of the five-day Maldivian Heritage Week, which runs from Sunday until Thursday, at Cultural Heritage Centre Al Bait Al Gharbi in the heart of Sharjah, will take heritage lovers, enthusiasts, researchers and specialists on a journey through the history, geography and heritage of the Maldives, through a rich array of activities that reflect different colours of ancient and diverse Maldivian heritage.

Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the SIH, said that the Maldivian Heritage Week will familiarise us with the traditional food from the Maldivian kitchen, traditional hand craft, traditional jewellery, photo gallery from the Maldivian culture, artistic and musical performances presented by the two Maldivian bands “Harubee and Ranee Queen”.

Al Musallam stated that events under “The World Heritage Week” are launched under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah as part of Sharjah Institute for Heritage’s activities.

World Heritage Week programmes aim to acquaint people with customs, traditions and cultures of peoples, and enhance cultural and heritage cooperation with other countries.
