Sharjah 24 – WAM: Belgian rider Tim Wellens of UAE Team Emirates-XRG secured the overall title of the 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain after successfully defending his green jersey on the final stage in the Scottish Borders, delivering the Emirati squad its 71st victory of the season.

It was a historic final day for the team, as teammate Nils Politt claimed stage 5 to secure the squad's 70th win of 2026 just moments before Wellens crossed the line to seal the general classification. The Emirati team delivered a masterclass in tactics more than 80 kilometres from the finish, exploiting crosswinds and the 1.9-kilometre Duddy Bank climb to place five riders—Wellens, Politt, Mikkel Bjerg, Florian Vermeersch, and Benoît Cosnefroy—in an elite leading group of eight alongside Filippo Ganna.

As the race approached the final 10 kilometres, Politt launched a decisive solo attack to claim the stage victory, with Vermeersch finishing second, Cosnefroy fourth, Bjerg seventh, and Wellens eighth. The dominant performance capped off a stellar week that included seizing the initiative on the opening stage in Lincoln, moving up during the stage 2 crosswinds, and taking the race lead during the Queen stage through the Yorkshire Dales. Alongside Wellens' overall title and Politt's stage win, UAE Team Emirates-XRG also triumphed in the team classification, celebrating their maiden victory in the Tour of Britain.
