Sharjah 24: The UAE Para Cycling Team achieved a historic milestone at the International Track Cycling Cup in Maringá, Brazil, securing one gold and one silver medal and taking its overall medal tally to eight.

Emirati champion Abdullah Al Balooshi won gold in the C4 scratch race after a fierce final-stage battle, before adding silver in the elimination race in the same category.

Historic first gold for the UAE

Al Balooshi’s gold marks the UAE’s first-ever gold medal in a UCI Class 1 event, representing a major milestone for Emirati Paralympic cycling on the international stage.

The team had previously secured six medals. Al Balooshi contributed four, including two silver and two bronze medals, while Ahmed Al-Badawi won two bronze medals in the C5 qualifying heat.

Al Balooshi celebrates major achievement

Al Balooshi expressed his delight at the accomplishment, describing the podium finish and raising the UAE flag at a Class 1 international championship as the result of continuous effort and intensive preparation.

Looking ahead to upcoming events

National team coach Mohammed Al Marwi said the results will motivate the team to pursue further achievements, particularly at the upcoming World Road Cycling Championships in Huntsville, Alabama, and the Asian Paralympic Games.
