Sharjah Self-Defence Club leads Jiu-Jitsu Championship opener

Sharjah 24: Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club claimed the top spot on the opening day of Round 6 of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship at Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex in Dubai.

The No-Gi competition featured young athletes in the Under-12, Under-14, and Under-16 categories. ADMA finished second, while Palms Sports took third in the season's final No-Gi event.

Strong support for young athletes

The opening day drew prominent figures, including His Excellency Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation.

 

Board members His Excellency Yousef Abdullah Al Batran and Mohammed Bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri also attended the event.

 

Al Batran highlighted the technical demands of No-Gi competition, saying it develops quick reactions and decision-making under pressure.

 

ADMA coach Vitor Junior Teixeira praised his athletes for maintaining discipline and composure throughout the competition.

Families encourage young competitors

Packed stands highlighted the important role of families in supporting young athletes.

Parents Khamis Mubarak Al Mazrouei and Sarah Al Haddad said jiu-jitsu helps children develop confidence, respect, and emotional resilience.

Al Shamsi claims gold

Matar Al Shamsi delivered one of the standout performances, winning gold in the Under-12 Grey Belt 50kg division for Al Hamriyah Cultural and Sports Club.

 

Round 6 concludes on Sunday with the Under-18, Adults, and Masters divisions, which will determine the final No-Gi standings of the season.
