Club leadership attends opening round
Taryam Matar Taryam, Chairman of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, attended the opening round, alongside Imran Abdullah Al Nuaimi, the club's Vice Chairman; Faisal Al Hamadi, board member and Director of the Sharjah International Academy; and Mamun Al Darus, the club's Executive Director, along with several guests and chess enthusiasts.
Two heavyweight careers meet on the board
The clash between Salem Abdulrahman and Wang Hao has drawn considerable attention, given the calibre of both players' careers. Abdulrahman ranks among the leading names in Emirati chess, with a string of achievements at Arab, Asian and international levels, while Wang Hao brings a long record of appearances and strong results on the world elite circuit.
Important addition to Sharjah's chess scene
Taryam Matar Taryam said staging the second edition of the Battle of Minds Chess Challenge reflects the club's commitment to hosting quality events that bring together elite players and offer a high standard of competition. He said the meeting between Salem Abdulrahman Saleh and Wang Hao represents an important addition to Sharjah's chess scene.
"We are proud to host this encounter, which brings together one of the most prominent names in Emirati chess with a player of great international experience and standing," he said. "We hope the tournament delivers a technical standard worthy of both players and of Sharjah's stature in the world of chess."
He noted that holding the competition across three formats — classical, rapid and blitz — gives the tournament its own distinct character, allowing spectators to follow different styles of play while giving club and academy players a valuable chance to test themselves against, and learn from, top-level champions.
Taryam Matar Taryam added that the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club will continue organising and hosting international tournaments and matchups and supporting Emirati talent, helping to raise players' technical standards and reinforce Sharjah's standing as a leading destination for chess events.
