Maryam Al Qatari, Director of the Nursing Home, stated that the visit was coordinated with the Sharjah Foundation for Capability Development within the framework of the "From Generation to Generation" initiative. This initiative aims to enhance communication between the home's residents and the Foundation's members, providing an opportunity to exchange experiences and inspiring stories that will have a positive impact on all participants.
Al Qatari explained that the initiative involves organising panel discussions and sharing inspiring life experiences presented by the home's senior residents. These individuals have undergone profound and enriching experiences that can leave a lasting impression on young people and contribute to instilling the value of learning from human experiences. She added, "We welcomed this youth-led community initiative because it aims to instill values of gratitude, empathy, and responsibility in young people, and to build a leading, compassionate, and responsible volunteer community capable of effectively serving society."
During the visit, the young people listened attentively to a resident who shared his experience in traditional trade, explaining how commercial exchanges took place between local merchants and those arriving from distant regions by sea. These trade journeys could last weeks, and sometimes even months. The visit also included spending time with and accompanying the elderly in a warm and humane atmosphere that strengthened intergenerational communication and allowed the youth to learn firsthand about rich life experiences and authentic values.
The "Ataa" initiative is part of the Sharjah Foundation for Capability Development's efforts to empower young people to fulfill their social and humanitarian roles by providing a comprehensive educational experience that combines interactive workshops and purposeful field visits. This contributes to enhancing cultural and social awareness and opening avenues for dialogue and communication with various segments of society.
