Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Women’s Sports officially crowned the winners of its School Athletics Championship, organised under the umbrella of the Specialised Sports Schools Initiative. The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Taekwondo Hall within the Sharjah Olympic Women’s Sports Centre.

Staged in three progressive phases throughout 2026, the championship brought together 81 female students representing 13 public and private schools across the Emirate. Competitors vied for podium finishes across three distinct age groups—9–10, 11–12, and 13–14 years—in a diverse lineup of track and field disciplines, including sprints, middle-distance races, long jump, shot put, and relay races.

High-caliber competition and podium success

The multi-stage tournament drew widespread participation, showcasing impressive physical performances, tactical endurance, and technical skill from the young athletes. Outstanding achievements were celebrated across both individual and team categories, with prominent institutions such as the Zayed Educational Complexes and Al Nouf School dominating several events to secure multiple podium finishes. While the sprint and middle-distance track events featured highly competitive, photo-finish times, the relay races particularly spotlighted exceptional teamwork, seamless baton-handling, and collective strategy among the student athletes.

Nurturing talent and advancing school sports culture

Officials from the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation underscored the strategic importance of track and field within the Specialised Sports Schools Initiative. They noted that athletics serves as a fundamental benchmark for discovering and honing core physical attributes in youth, such as speed, stamina, functional strength, and agility.

"The structured, multi-phase format of this championship ensures continuous athletic assessment and long-term development, moving away from the limitations of one-off competitions," an official commented.

By embedding structured competitive sports directly within the academic ecosystem, the SWS continues to advance its broader mission of fostering a sustainable sports culture among students and building a robust pipeline of future champions capable of representing the UAE on regional and international stages.
