Sharjah24: Egypt reached the FIFA World Cup last 16 for the first time in their history after defeating Australia 4-2 on penalties in their round-of-32 match at Dallas Stadium in the United States.
Egypt took the lead through Emam Ashour in the 13th minute before Australia equalised when Mohamed Hany turned the ball into his own net in the 55th minute. The match remained level through extra time, forcing a penalty shootout, where Egypt held their nerve to secure victory.
Egypt will face Argentina in the last 16 after the defending champions defeated Cape Verde later on the same day.
