Sharjah 24: Sharjah is preparing to host the fourth and final session of the fourth parliamentary term of the Arab Parliament for the Child in mid-July 2026. The event will bring together members from across the Arab world, reflecting the highest ideals of joint Arab cooperation under the established umbrella of the League of Arab States, with the continued support and close oversight of the Secretary-General of the League.

The closing session of the Parliament’s fourth term will be held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, whose enduring commitment to Arab children has provided unlimited support for empowering the new generation to fulfil its parliamentary role and express its aspirations responsibly under the Parliament’s dedicated chamber for Arab children in Sharjah. The chamber has become a beacon for preparing future leaders and nurturing a generation capable of dialogue, constructive engagement and nation-building.

The forthcoming session marks the culmination of an extensive programme of organised parliamentary work carried out throughout the Parliament’s fourth term since its launch.

The fourth parliamentary term began with a series of integrated sessions that reflected significant progress in strengthening partnerships and enhancing joint Arab efforts to support children. The first session, held in February 2025, saw the election of the Parliament’s President and two Vice-Presidents, alongside the formation of the permanent parliamentary committees, which immediately began examining issues of importance to children across the Arab world.

This was followed by the second session in July 2025, held under the strategic theme The cultural identity of the Arab child, which focused on safeguarding Arab values and heritage amid contemporary changes.

The Parliament’s work continued with the third session in February 2026 under the theme Cybersecurity: Towards child-friendly content for Arab children. During this session, members discussed mechanisms for protecting children in the digital environment and presented recommendations to ensure safe and beneficial online experiences while keeping pace with rapid technological developments without compromising children's intellectual or psychological wellbeing.

Commenting on the preparations, Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child, said that arrangements are progressing at full pace in cooperation with all partners to organise the fourth session in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. He described it as a fitting conclusion to the Parliament’s fourth term, part of a series of parliamentary terms launched in 2019 through which Arab children have demonstrated exceptional awareness and remarkable ability to discuss issues affecting them with responsibility and maturity.

Al Barout added that the Parliament’s General Secretariat remains fully committed to providing a supportive and enabling environment for members, ensuring that their aspirations are translated into practical recommendations submitted to the League of Arab States in line with the Arab vision that places child welfare and human development among its highest priorities.

He also praised the close and ongoing cooperation with fellow Arab states and organisations concerned with children's affairs, noting that this collaboration plays a direct role in the success of parliamentary initiatives and the sustainable development of community and institutional partnerships, ultimately contributing to the protection, wellbeing and advancement of Arab children towards a brighter and more progressive future.
