Cabo Verde continued its impressive start to its first-ever World Cup campaign by holding two-time champions Uruguay to a 2-2 draw at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in the final match of the second round of Group H at the CONCACAF World Cup.
Cabo Verde opened the scoring through Kevin Pena (21), its first-ever goal in its debut at the World Cup. Uruguay responded with goals from Maxi Araujo (44) and Agustín Canobbio (45+6), before Hélio Varela equalised (61).
This was the second draw for both teams, after Uruguay were held to a 1-1 draw by Saudi Arabia and Cabo Verde held European champions Spain to a 0-0 draw.
Uruguay and Cabo Verde are tied for second place with two points each, with Uruguay ahead on goal difference. They trail the leaders, Spain, by two points, following Spain's 4-0 victory over bottom-placed Saudi Arabia in Atlanta earlier this week. Saudi Arabia has one point.
