Sharjah 24 – WAM: FIFA has launched a new initiative through its Medical Department, in partnership with the American Heart Association, to train football fans in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency response to sudden cardiac arrest during the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Hands-only CPR training at FIFA Fan Festivals

The programme gives visitors to FIFA Fan Festivals the opportunity to learn how to identify the signs of cardiac arrest and practise hands-only CPR, helping to increase awareness of essential life-saving skills.

Training is being delivered through the American Heart Association’s Nation of Lifesavers Mobile CPR Unit, which has already engaged thousands of fans at FIFA Fan Festivals in Atlanta, Dallas and Philadelphia, as well as at the New York New Jersey Fan Zone.

Football used to promote public health awareness

Dr Andrew Massey, FIFA Medical Director, said the initiative uses football’s global reach to promote an important public health message, noting that CPR is a simple skill that anyone can learn and use in emergencies.

He added that the FIFA World Cup offers a unique platform to reach large audiences, raise health awareness and support community initiatives that contribute to safer and healthier societies.
