Lecture on Sharjah’s silk road heritage
The authority delivered a specialised lecture on historical links between Sharjah and the Silk Road, highlighting key archaeological discoveries that underscore the emirate’s role as a major hub for trade and cultural exchange between East and West.
Meetings with Chinese cultural institutions
Dr Issa Yousif, Director General of the Sharjah Archaeology Authority, said participation was organised in cooperation with the Emirates Publishers Association as part of the UAE cultural delegation to the fair.
He said the programme enabled meetings with several Chinese cultural institutions, including the National Museum of China, to explore cooperation in archaeological research and cultural heritage preservation. He noted previous collaboration, including a visit by a Chinese research team to Sharjah’s Eastern Region last year to study archaeological discoveries and produce a scientific report on their findings.
Expanding UAE–China heritage cooperation
Dr Yousif said the authority is working to deepen cultural relations with the People’s Republic of China through knowledge exchange programmes and joint research initiatives, aimed at strengthening cooperation in archaeology and cultural heritage and reinforcing cultural links between the two countries.
He added that discussions are also under way about the potential inclusion of selected archaeological artefacts from Sharjah on platforms linked to the Silk Road initiative, reflecting the emirate’s historical role in regional trade and cultural exchange.
Archaeological findings highlighted
The lecture also highlighted the significance of archaeological discoveries in Sharjah and their connections with ancient Asian civilisations. The findings, the authority said, reflect long-standing trade and cultural ties that link the region to Silk Road routes over several centuries.
