Sharjah24: Professor Dr Ahmed Ali Al-Raisi, Director of the United Arab Emirates University, announced the organisation of an exhibition entitled "Manuscripts: Identity and Sustainable Development" in collaboration with the House of Wisdom as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the institution in celebration of the institution’s 50th anniversary.

The exhibition was inaugurated on Tuesday evening in the presence of His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, along with senior officials, university directors, and members of the academic community.

The 10-day exhibition features 50 manuscripts and documents from different branches of sciences, focusing on man's contribution to the progress of science, society and technology.

UAEU marks 50 years of establishment

Dr Al-Raisi said in statements to Sharjah 24 that the university is celebrating its Golden Jubilee and the 50th anniversary of its establishment, which was adopted by UNESCO at the 43rd General Conference held in Tashkent. He noted that 2026 marks a year dedicated to celebrating the journey of higher education in the UAE, beginning with the establishment of UAEU.

Manuscripts highlight historical challenges

Professor Dr Al-Raisi explained that the exhibition includes 50 manuscripts and documents across various scientific fields. Through the display, visitors can learn about the challenges faced during that period and how people dealt with them positively, transforming them into important opportunities that served society.

House of Wisdom hosts final stop of touring exhibition

He added that the exhibition has been held at several locations, with the House of Wisdom serving as its final stop due to its strategic importance.

Focus on academic heritage and scientific development

Professor Dr Al-Raisi noted that the exhibition reflects the contribution of Arab scholars in various scientific fields and allows visitors to explore the development of scientific knowledge over time.

He added that the exhibition forms part of the university’s Golden Jubilee celebrations and highlights its academic journey since its establishment.

The exhibition features fifty rare manuscripts from UAEU’s collections, spanning multiple fields. The collection features a diverse selection of manuscripts, treatises, and scholarly works that played a significant role in shaping Arab and Islamic civilisation across a wide range of disciplines, including the Holy Qur'an and Qur'anic studies, Arabic language and literature, astronomy, medicine, engineering, mathematics, and other scientific fields.

Organised around three themes, it highlights the breadth of scholarship that flourished. The first explores Quranic studies and the Arabic language; the second examines astronomy, geography, and timekeeping, showcasing Arab and Muslim contributions to the study of the universe; and the third focuses on theoretical and applied sciences, including medicine, mathematics, engineering, chemistry, and agriculture.

The exhibition takes visitors on an intellectual journey spanning nearly five centuries of scientific and scholarly achievement, highlighting the interconnectedness of diverse fields of knowledge and their contributions to societal advancement. It also offers a rare opportunity to explore the history of authorship, manuscript copying, and learning, and to discover the ideas and innovations that enriched human civilisation. Through this journey, the exhibition underscores the central role of knowledge in shaping both human development and civilisation across the ages.
