Sharjah 24 – WAM: The United Arab Emirates continues to uphold a steadfast position regarding the Sudanese civil war, which began in April 2023, issuing clear messages condemning violations, calling for an immediate halt to hostilities, and advocating a civilian-led political solution.

Protecting civilians and condemning violations

Since the onset of the crisis, the UAE has stressed the importance of safeguarding civilians and preventing attacks on residential areas through official statements from May 2023 to October 2025. The country has called on the international community to address the ongoing violations and crimes in Sudan.

Condemnation of specific attacks

On 9 June, the UAE condemned attacks against civilians in El Fasher, describing them as a "dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law," while calling for humanitarian corridors and civilian protection.

In a 14 February 2025 statement, the UAE condemned the use of chemical weapons in West Darfur, calling it a war crime that cannot be ignored.

Accountability and shared responsibility

The UAE stressed that indiscriminate shelling, executions, sexual violence, and blocking humanitarian aid must stop, with perpetrators held accountable. All parties to the conflict share responsibility for atrocities, and continued military action prolongs suffering. This position was reiterated at the Human Rights Council on 3 March 2025.

Political solution as the only path

The UAE maintains that a political track is essential to ending the crisis. Through meetings in Jeddah (May 2023), Manama (June 2024), Geneva (October 2024), and Washington (July 2025), the UAE emphasized a civilian-led transitional process to form a legitimate government within nine months.

Support for the Quad Statement

On 12 September 2025, the UAE welcomed the Quad statement (UAE, Saudi Arabia, US, Egypt) as a breakthrough for restarting the political process. The country also supported a three-month humanitarian truce announced on 5 April 2025 to allow aid corridors and pave the way for a permanent ceasefire.

Humanitarian assistance

UN reports show 25 million people in Sudan require urgent aid, including over 4.5 million displaced. The UAE has provided long-standing humanitarian support, with $3.9 billion in aid from 2014 to 2025.

Between May 2023 and December 2024, the UAE sent 122 cargo planes carrying 8,300 tonnes of food, medical supplies, and shelter materials to Sudan.

Health support

The UAE established field hospitals in Chad and South Sudan to support Sudanese refugees and aided 127 health facilities across 14 states. Direct assistance has reached over 650,000 people, including food, water rehabilitation, and hospital generator support. In November 2024, an emergency campaign provided 100,000 food baskets to Al Jazirah and Kassala states.

Long-term commitment

The UAE emphasized that its support is humanitarian, not tied to the conflict, having previously assisted Sudan with education, health, and infrastructure between 2016 and 2022.

Combating misinformation

Amid increasing misinformation since mid-2024, the UAE warned that false media campaigns exacerbate the conflict and civilian suffering. On 7 September 2025, the country called for responsible media to promote peace and counter hate speech.

Addressing extremism and regional stability

The UAE highlighted the threat of extremist and terrorist groups in Sudan during a July 2025 international security meeting, urging international cooperation to prevent their spread.

Emirati vision for Sudan

The UAE continues to support the Sudanese people, reject war, protect civilians, and advocate sustainable political solutions. Its ongoing efforts with the international community aim to secure a ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid, and reinforce a civilian-led transition to help Sudan overcome its crisis.
