UAE strongly condemns attack on mosque in Darfur

Sharjah 24 – WAM: The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the attack on a mosque in Al-Daraja neighborhood of El Fasher city in Sudan’s Darfur region, which resulted in dozens of civilian deaths and injuries. The UAE stressed that such an attack constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law.

Call for adherence to the Jeddah Declaration
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) urged the two warring Sudanese parties to adhere to the Jeddah Declaration, highlighting the importance of prioritising the interests of the Sudanese people and protecting civilians from the devastating impact of the civil war.

Support for peaceful resolution and ceasefire
The Ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s steadfast support for efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict. It emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire and greater protection for civilians affected by the violence.

Commitment to regional and international cooperation
The UAE reiterated its commitment to working with regional and international partners to address the worsening crisis, restore stability, and pursue lasting peace in Sudan. The Ministry also condemned all forms of extremism and terrorism that contribute to ongoing violence.

Condolences and support for victims
The Ministry expressed heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and to the Sudanese people, extending wishes for a swift recovery for those injured in the attack.
