Sharjah 24 – WAM: The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the recent attack on a World Food Programme (WFP) humanitarian convoy in Mellit, North Darfur, Sudan. The UAE described the incident as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, underlining the need to protect civilians and humanitarian personnel.

Call to uphold international agreements

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the UAE reaffirmed the urgent need for Sudan’s warring parties to adhere to the Jeddah Declaration, ensuring the safety of civilians and the safe, unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.

Emphasis on the Sudanese people’s welfare

The Ministry also stressed the importance of prioritising the well-being of the Sudanese people, who continue to bear the brunt of the ongoing conflict. The UAE called for all efforts to focus on mitigating the humanitarian crisis.

UAE reiterates its call for immediate ceasefire

The UAE reiterated its firm stance calling for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan. It also urged for urgent and unimpeded humanitarian access, while supporting regional and international initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict and achieving peace and stability for the Sudanese people.
