Sharjah 24 – WAM: The UAE affirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces continue to exploit every available platform to spread false and unfounded allegations against it in an attempt to mislead the international community and divert attention from their responsibility for the devastation inflicted upon Sudan.

UAE highlights disinformation campaigns

“Instead of directing their efforts toward ending the civil war they ignited, they are devoting their efforts towards misleading disinformation campaigns to prolong the conflict and obstruct any genuine and constructive path toward achieving peace,” said Jamal Al Musharakh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva. He delivered the UAE’s right of reply during the 38th Special Session of the Human Rights Council on the Human Rights Situation in and around El Fasher, addressing remarks made by a delegate representing a warring party in Sudan.

UN reports document war crimes

Al Musharakh emphasized that United Nations reports have documented war crimes and severe violations of international law committed by both the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. He also noted that the Sudanese Armed Forces rejected a humanitarian truce proposed by the Quad, supported by the UAE and the United States, which could have prevented recent escalations in El Fasher and allowed for humanitarian aid delivery.

UAE supports ceasefire and civilian-led government

The UAE reaffirmed its support for efforts to achieve an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, urging both parties to respect their legal and humanitarian obligations and prioritize the interests of the Sudanese people. It also reiterated its commitment to working with regional and international partners, including the Quad, to facilitate a transitional process leading to an independent, civilian-led government not controlled by the warring parties.

UAE calls for reflection and peace

Al Musharakh stated, “Those who claim to have built the glory of other nations should reflect on the destruction they have caused to their own people and devote their efforts to rebuilding their country rather than spreading false information.” He concluded: “Nations are not built on massacres and destruction, but on peace, tolerance, and dialogue. We must not forget that the Port Sudan Authority, which seeks international sympathy, is the same party that caused bloodshed in Darfur twenty years ago and seized power by force from the democratically elected civilian government in October 2021.”
