Sharjah 24: Relationships in novels, often portrayed as idealized connections and emotional expressions, should be understood in a literary context and not applied to real life, noted author, actor, and YouTuber Prajakta Koli at the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair, currently underway at Expo Centre Sharjah.

Debut novel Too Good To Be True showcased at SIBF 2025

Koli’s debut novel, Too Good To Be True, is being featured at SIBF 2025. She addressed a largely Gen Z audience, urging them to be cautious of relationships that hinder personal growth. Regarding the hero in her novel, Aman, she said: “You have to have more dimensions. Aman doesn’t have that. Characters in books are not a parameter you should aspire for.” While Aman is presented as rich, successful, and caring, the heroine is portrayed as flawed and vulnerable.

Inspiration and personal experience

The young creator shared that she drew inspiration from her own personality while keeping the story fictional. “I’m a shy writer and I hold certain moments in relationships so close to myself that I am too shy to share it.” She also playfully mentioned that if the novel were adapted into a movie, she would like to play the heroine, Avni.

Support during the writing process

Koli noted that the Covid years gave her time to explore long-form writing. She highlighted the guidance of her editor, who helped simplify complex sentences and maintain perspective, as well as the strong support from family and friends that aided her writing process.

Popularity and upcoming projects

With over 17 million followers across social media platforms, Koli is known for her lead role in Netflix India’s Mismatched and the upcoming Amazon Prime series Andhera.
