Sharjah 24: In an atmosphere brimming with curiosity and a love of discovery, children visiting the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) embarked on a fascinating scientific experience during the "Solar Car" workshop. The workshop provided them with a practical and innovative opportunity to learn about green energy and engineering principles by building solar-powered car models using LEGO bricks.

During the workshop, supervisor Akrama Al Jaljawi led the children on an engaging educational journey, explaining how sunlight is converted into electrical energy and then into mechanical energy to power the small car. This is achieved by attaching a solar panel to the engine and focusing the light onto it.

Understanding the fundamentals of sustainable energy

Al Jaljawi explained that the workshop helps children understand the fundamentals of sustainable energy and its various applications through hands-on experience. He noted that the experience sparks their curiosity and encourages them to ask questions about energy sources and how to utilise them in the future. The workshop saw great interaction from school students aged 8 to 12, who were engaged in experimenting with different scenarios for their solar-powered car models in an atmosphere of collaboration and learning.

This workshop is part of the Sharjah International Book Fair 2025, organised by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) at Expo Centre Sharjah. The fair, which runs until November 16th under the theme "Between You and the Book," brings together educational and interactive programmes aimed at instiling love of learning and creativity in the younger generation.
